Heavy bundles tough burden Time brings to the mill
the black mill clatters until the thread is unwound
from Friday to Friday until Good Friday
from Christmas eve to Easter
the stones grate the miller walks

grow grow little grass until the scythe comes
until the reaper doesn't fell you and
when as from days of yore
the screeching steps abide the last dancers, nobody will know the hour
when they make the dark wedding none
will know the reason why
when they bake the dry cake

the beams creak the mill grinds the
wind tosses tired wishes
the grinding stones clang and wobble
eerie voices sing above
give us bread to eat drunk with you we shall sleep
heavy bundles tough burden Time brings
to the mill
quiet sleep of the pale ladies
